Council of Seniors

The Column Hall, one of the biggest rooms in the SejmThe Council of Seniors functions as an advisory body of the Presidium, its main role being the assurance of cooperation between the Deputies' clubs with regard to the activity and operation of the Sejm. This particular body of the Sejm possesses a political character, since it is composed of the Marshal and the Vicemarshals, chairpersons of clubs or their deputies, and representatives of parliamentary groups representing a separate electoral list on the day of the beginning of the term of office. The Council thus deals with issues of uttermost importance for the functioning of the Sejm. In particular, the Council opinions draft timetables of the work performed by the Sejm, draft orders of the day of particular sittings and their dates, and other matters referred to it by the Marshal or the Presidium. The Chief of the Chancellery of the Sejm participates in the sittings of the Council, with the right to express advisory opinions.
