Sejm upamiętnia amerykańskiego prezydenta. Thomas Woodrow Wilson uhonorowany

Sejm podjął w czwartek uchwałę w sprawie upamiętnienia prezydenta Thomasa Woodrowa Wilsona. „Sejm Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej oddaje hołd 28. prezydentowi Stanów Zjednoczonych Ameryki, osobie szczególnie zasłużonej dla polskiej niepodległości, laureatowi pokojowej Nagrody Nobla za rok 1919” - napisano w dokumencie, przyjętym przez Izbę przez aklamację.

Przypomniano, że w ostatnim roku pierwszej wojny światowej, prezydent Wilson w orędziu do Kongresu USA przedstawił program pokojowy, postulując w punkcie 13. powstanie niepodległego państwa polskiego. "Następnie był jedną z głównych postaci na decydującej o powojennych granicach Europy Konferencji Paryskiej rozpoczętej 18 stycznia 1919 r.”.

„Umocnił przyjaźń pomiędzy Narodami Polskim i Amerykańskim, odwołując się do łączących nas wartości: niepodważalnego prawa narodów do samostanowienia, wolności i równości. Za zasługi dla Polski w listopadzie 1922 r. został odznaczony Orderem Orła Białego” - podkreślono w uchwale.

Wyrażono również przekonanie, że wkrótce w Warszawie stanie pomnik prezydenta Thomasa Woodrowa Wilsona.

Polish Sejm commemorates American president. Thomas Woodrow Wilson is honoured.

The Sejm (the lower house of the Polish parliament) adopted a resolution on Thursday to commemorate President Thomas Woodrow Wilson. “The Sejm of the Republic of Poland pays tribute to the 28th president of the United States of America, a person especially honoured in relation to Poland’s independence, a laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize for the year 1919,” reads the document adopted by the Sejm by acclamation.

It was recalled that in the last year of World War I, President Wilson presented a peace plan in an address to the US Congress, in point 13 of which he proposed the establishment of an independent Polish state. “He was later one of the main figures at the Paris Conference, which began on 18 January 1919 and was decisive for the post-war borders of Europe.”

“He strengthened the friendship between the Polish and American Nations, referring to the values that connect us: the indisputable right of nations to self-determination, freedom and equality. For his service he was awarded the Order of the White Eagle in November 1922,” the resolution states.

It was also announced that a monument to President Thomas Woodrow Wilson would soon be erected in Warsaw.
