National Defence Committee (OBN)

Within its remit, the National Defence Committee deals with matters concerning the country's defence, particularly the functioning of the armed forces, the system of the country's territorial and civil defence and their functioning, performance of duties relating to strengthening the defence capacity - by state bodies, state-owned enterprises, co-operatives, social organisations and citizens, as well as issues of defence industry enterprises.
The Committee's activity covers primarily the so-called army professionalisation package: Government draft bills amending the Act on the General Obligation to Defend the Republic of Poland, the Act on the Military Service of Professional Soldiers, the Act on Army Discipline and the Act on Quartering of Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland. The Committee also handles the functioning of the Polish Army Contingents; Poland's functioning and activity in the NATO, modernisation of the Polish Armed Forces, the functioning of Special Forces, army education, army health care, functioning of Polish Military Gendarmerie and activity of the Military Housing Agency (WAM) and the Military Property Agency (AMW).
